Disney’s first move was to consolidate. They fired executives from Fox’s home entertainment division. They closed distribution centers. They cancelled reissues. Within months, Fox titles were gone. Touchstone Horror & Drama Disappeared
Touchstone Entertainment released films Disney’s mainstream label wouldn’t touch. Cold Creek Manor (2003) with Sharon Stone is a Touchstone thriller that’s nearly impossible to find now. Mr. Destiny (1990)—a Touchstone comedy—is OOP and increasingly rare. When Disney took over, these releases were systematically pulled from circulation.
Fox’s Sci-Fi Horror That Vanished
Fox released some of horror and sci-fi’s greatest films. Aliens (1986) with slipcover is practically impossible to find in this condition. From Hell (2001) and the Carrie remake (2013) are all OOP and disappearing.
The Collector’s Window
Disney’s endgame is clear: control all distribution through their platforms. Physical media means permanence—once you own it, Disney can’t take it away. For collectors, this means that any Fox or Touchstone title currently available should be secured immediately. Once Disney’s purge is complete, these films will only exist on their terms.
